I had never been much of a snorer, but then I suddenly was. At first my husband Paul would tell me how my snoring woke him up in the middle of the night occasionally, then it became more and more frequent, until eventually it was more often than not.
The worst part is that Paul has a difficult time falling back asleep once he is woken up, so this led to restless nights and lack of sleep. Paul was exhausted and I couldn’t seem to stop my snoring, which left me groggy and sneezing in the mornings.
We bought a new bed, got new pillows and tried different sleeping positions, but to no avail. I even tried peppermint oil at night in hopes of helping my breathing. Looking for help, we turned to The Dr. Oz Show. Since meeting with Dr. Oz and Dr. Breus, Paul and I have been doing well and seem to have eliminated most of the snoring!
First I tried the neti pot, and while it made my nose feel cleaner, it didn’t seem to make a big difference in my snoring. The wedge pillow was much higher than the one on the show and a bit difficult to get used to. I could fall asleep but would keep waking up in the middle of the night and would end up sleeping on my side, which meant more snoring.
What seems to have made the most difference is a slight change in diet, especially adding more veggies, like broccoli. I have been trying to eat lighter meals at night, more protein and veggies and less carbs. We have tried to increase our water intake as well and Paul has only used energy drinks a few times since the show, which has helped lower his caffeine intake.
We have made a few other adjustments as well, but the other change that has seemed to make the most difference is using lavender. I use a natural oil diffuser, add a few drops of lavender oil and plug it in during the night. We are both sleeping better, and if I am snoring, it doesn’t seem to wake Paul up anymore, which makes us both much happier!
