Mary’s Salt Addiction Progress and How She Beat the Bloat

I have been working hard since the first time I was on The Dr. Oz Show. I have been staying away from the pickles, chips, sauerkraut, olives and salsa. Even so, I was still feeling pretty bloated, especially after weekends filled with dinners out, parties and family dinners. Dr. Oz and Dr. Durvasula discovered that I was eating too much hidden sodium and too many carbs. I jumped right in to change this and started eating a lot of Greek yogurt and fresh fruits and veggies to improve my diet.

I was happy at first when my weight started going down again, but the yogurt and extra fiber was bothering my stomach. This has happened many times in the past, and I usually would give up the healthy foods right away and go back to my old habits. After I discussed the issue with Dr. Durvasula, she told me to search for the healthy foods that agreed with me. I did a lot of research and have discovered that there are lots of good foods that don’t upset my stomach at all.

I have to admit that I procrastinated in writing this blog. I was disappointed in myself with my slow weight loss. To give me a little boost, I decided to make a list of all the positive things that have come from all my hard work:

  • I have lost more than five inches off my waist.
  • I am down two pant sizes and now wear a medium top instead of an extra large.
  • I am no longer addicted to salt!
  • My family has become more aware of what they eat.
  • My blood pressure is stable for the first time in 25 years.
  • My energy is through the roof!
  • I have lost 13 pounds so far.

I realized after looking over this list that I am doing very well. Success is not just about the number on the scale. I am so grateful for this journey to get my health back!
