I am so excited to be on this much-needed journey. I have been overweight since after the birth of my first child in 1978. Needless to say, 17 more pregnancies didn’t ever give me a chance to lose weight. Now we have 15 living children and 14-and-counting grandchildren; my husband and I both have a full-time job outside the home as the general manager of a restaurant, so I stay extremely busy taking care of everyone else. This is the life I have always known and love. My family is everything to me. I am very much a giver more than a receiver. I never worry about myself. My role as wife, mother, grandmother and manager is to guide everyone else and make sure their needs are met first and foremost.
Unfortunately, though, these last few years have been rough on me. My weight has caused me a lot of physical pain. The top of my feet constantly hurt. Recently, I had a right knee replacement for the second time on the same knee. Needless to say, I still have issues. My right knee has been operated on four times in less than two years! I spend a lot of time limping. What I didn’t realize until I went on The Dr. Oz Show, is how my eating habits are affecting my organs. I was shocked to see those numbers! I have to admit it scares me. Now, with Dr. Oz’s help, I am ready to reclaim the lifestyle I need to live to be healthy and fit. I am so grateful to him! He has given me a gift. Dr. Oz has brought a nutritionist, Haylie Pomroy, into my life. She is going to teach me how to eat healthy, learn to love food and still lose weight.
I have always avoided eating a lot of food. My issue is eating the wrong foods. I am ready to change, and I need to change! I know it’s not going to be easy adding this into my already-hectic lifestyle. However, when you don’t feel good physically and you are jeopardizing your overall health, you know it’s time to do something different. I know I need to do this and want to do this. I have prayed for this for a long time and I feel this is an answer to my prayers. Haylie says I need to restart my metabolism because the way I have been eating has forced my body into storing fat instead of burning it. To do this, she has me started on a 28-day DIET (meaning, did I eat today).
I’ve been working on this, and the first week of Haylie’s plan hasn’t been as difficult as I thought it would be. I’m actually eating more than I ever have! Haylie says it works in three phases. With each phase you are required to eat certain foods; for example, in the first phase, you eat fruits, vegetables, protein and good carbs. In the second phase I am allowed vegetables and protein only. The last phase is a combination of the previous two phases with healthy fats and oils included. All three phases are done per week. What a variety! I had a massive headache the first couple of days. I know it was from caffeine and sugar withdrawal, as these are not allowed. Somehow cravings haven’t been a huge issue during the first week, but I am eating so many different foods I haven’t had time to notice. Not to mention, the reward for this first week is a loss of nine pounds! Now my goal is to continue this momentum. The next few weeks will give me an opportunity to create new habits. I have already started and I am determined. Thank you, Dr. Oz!
