Detox Week Is Here!

Feeling unhealthy or out of sorts? It’s such a common complaint, one that I hear all too often. So, that’s why I’ve decided to dedicate an entire week of shows to helping you reset. How? Detox cleanses.

A cleanse is a short-term change in your diet to help reduce toxins in your body. However, if you’ve been eating the same foods your whole life, introducing new foods or eliminating what you thought was healthy can be intimidating. That’s where we come in. Some cleanses out there are unhealthy and extreme. However, when approached in a moderate and smart manner, the right cleanse can help you transition to a healthier lifestyle.

Why is an occasional detox important for your body? Every day, we unknowingly ingest chemicals, pesticides and additives from processed foods and from the environment. We overload our intestines, liver and kidneys with toxins, alcohol, excess sugar and pollution. This can trigger a number of problems, like constipation, fatigue, or a lack of mental clarity. With a cleanse, you’re encouraging your natural damage-control systems to rid your body of these toxins, leaving you feeling refreshed. However, beware! There are many dangerous cleanses that require you to starve yourself or buy expensive products, like pills, powders or enemas. One controversial, extreme, yet popular cleanse is the “Master Cleanse,” also known as the “lemonade diet.” Though it has existed for decades, it became more popular after Beyoncé, in preparation for her role in Dreamgirls, used the cleanse to drop 20 pounds. However, she later discouraged others from following it. Probably because the diet forces you to live on very little nutrients or calories, which can throw your metabolism and digestive system into chaos. 

The cleanses we’re featuring this week are nothing like that. They won’t starve you or rob you of nutrients. I’m going to introduce several cleanses that are tailored to your needs. Feeling tired? On Tuesday, tune in for the revitalizing 3-day jumpstart cleanse! Feeling stressed? On Wednesday, tune in for Dr. Deepak Chopra’s meditation cleanse. Want to refresh your look? All of these cleanses are safe and easy to follow. To track any changes, you may want to keep a journal to record things related to your goal. Gather all the ingredients first, and be sure to allot plenty of time to relax during any detox. If you want to go the extra mile, throw away the junk in your pantry so you’ll be less likely to eat it!
