Fridge Files: What’s in My Fridge

The key to a healthy lifestyle involves surrounding yourself with healthy food and eliminating the temptation to eat junk. As a result, Lisa and I make sure to keep junk food to a minimum in the fridge.

Take a peek inside my fridge. Some items are pretty easy to recognize:

Some of my favorites include:

  • Olives: A staple of the Mediterranean diet, olives have a wide range of health benefits, including protection against heart disease, depression, cancer, high cholesterol and dementia.
  • Blueberries: They’re only about 80 calories per cup and are very high in fiber, vitamin C, manganese and are an antioxidant powerhouse.

Some possibly less recognizable favorites of mine include:

  • Ayran: A delicious Turkish drink that consists of yogurt and cold water. It’s an acquired taste, but a very great source of calcium and probiotics.
  • Almond milk: It has less fat and more nutrients than regular milk. And it’s a great option for the lactose intolerant.
