One day before the recently passed ban on large sugary drinks was supposed to go into effect in New York City, a State Supreme Court judge has overturned the soda ban, blocking the city from putting the rules into effect. In his opinion, the judge, Justice Milton A. Tingling, cited “inequity in the soda rules, which applies to only certain sugared drinks—beverages with high milk content, for instance, would be exempt.” He also mentions that the ban would apply “to some but not all food establishments in the city.”
