If you’re a baby boomer interested in healthy aging, California might be the place to go. This week, the American Physical Therapy Association released a ranking of the “Top 10 Fittest Baby Boomer Cities in America.” After their baby-boomer occupants were evaluated for health and lifestyle factors, San Jose, California, and Minneapolis, Minnesota, topped the list.
Other cities on the list included San Francisco at number three, followed by Denver, Boston, Salt Lake City, Seattle, San Diego, Washington, D.C., and Raleigh, North Carolina.
San Jose had the highest life expectancy of all 50 cities surveyed at 82.5 years (the national average is about 78.6 years). Ninety-seven percent of Raleigh’s occupants reported being satisfied with life, the highest percentage of all the cities. Salt Lake City boasted low rates of high blood pressure, and Bostonian boomers had the highest rate of health insurance coverage at 95%.
