The American Academy of Dermatology Annual meeting just concluded in Miami, Florida. The largest dermatology meeting of the year, the AAD showcases the newest in prevention and treatment in the care of skin, hair and nails. Over 10,000 participants from around the world were part of this exciting event. Exciting advances in the treatment of skin cancer and conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, acne, and aging skin were presented.
Particularly exciting for me as a dermatologist whose focus is laser surgery is the new picosecond laser for faster, more thorough tattoo removal and the delivery of topical medications deeper into the skin using currently available lasers. This new way of medicine delivery will allow us to achieve better results for things like acne and rejuvenation in the future. Although several years away from reaching its full potential, the use of lasers to help deliver medications through the skin shows great promise to help dermatologists attain the best results possible for their patients.
